Overview
Hocking Valley Scenic Railway - Take a leisurely train ride through the Hocking Hills in a historic train. Trains depart Saturday and Sunday from the Nelsonville Depot on U.S. Route 33 and Hocking Parkway, next to Rocky Gear.

All regular trains Memorial Day weekend - October make a 30-minute stop at a pioneer log village. Special trains include Easter, Robbery, Fireworks Shuttle, Santa and New Year's Eve.

Take a narrated train ride through the historic Hocking River Valley to East Logan, passing through Haydenville, Ohios last company town.

The East Logan train runs the entire length of our track, and is, as a result, the longer train of our regular weekend trains. It operates round-trip from the Nelsonville Depot to East Logan, lasting approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. It is the same route to and from East Logan; the train simply reverses direction by moving the locomotive to the other end of the train.

Along the way, you will pass by the remains of Hocking Canal Lock No. 19 and Haydenville, Ohios last company town. You will also get a glimpse of the current industry in the Valley including gravel mining operations and a lumber facility. On-board narration will provide a history of the area and railroad.

You may bring soft drinks and food aboard. No restrooms on the train (available in the depot). There is a wheelchair lift available at the depot as needed.

Duration of ride: Approximately 2 hours

Our Noon train to Haydenville is the shortest trip of our trains. It operates every Saturday and Sunday between Memorial Day weekend and the last full weekend of October.

The train departs the Nelsonville Depot for a round-trip ride along the historic Hocking River Valley. Sights along the ride include one of the remaining Hocking Canal locks and the Hocking River.

Ride back into history when our old-time train carries a -gold- shipment. the robbers are planning an attack with their horses and guns to rob the train of its gold and the passengers of their -play- money. This thrilling trip is fun for the entire family and one of our most popular trains.

Train dates: Saturday, June 9, July 7, and August 4, 2018. This round trip train is scheduled for a 6 p.m. departure. Advance reservations are highly recommended for this train, as it typically sells out. Seating is made on a first-come, first-served basis and are not assigned regardless of reservation. All Caboose Train Ride

Ever wanted to ride a real caboose... Now is your chance. See what it was like riding the rails inside a caboose in our annual all-caboose train. Every so often, the collection of privately-owned cabooses in Nelsonville are opened up to the public and assembled into a special all-caboose train. During the ride, several photo run-bys will take place. The trip will last approximately three hours and operates the full length of the line to East Logan and return. It is the same route to and from East Logan; the train simply reverses direction by moving the locomotive to the other end of the train. A great event for the rail-fan in your life. Seating is incredibly limited so reserve your tickets as soon as possible.

A long tradition in the Hocking Valley--the annual Santa Trains. Continue the tradition as Santa visits each child as the train rolls along the valley.

Take part in an annual Christmas tradition in the Hocking River Valley that families have enjoyed for 40 years. As the train departs, Santa begins his journey through the train of heated coaches and visits with each child, hearing their special requests before the Big Day. Each child also gets to enjoy a candy treat after Santas visit. Trains operate each Saturday and Sunday between November 24th and December 16th at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and an evening departure on Saturday December 8th and 15th at 6:00 p.m. Each train departs Nelsonville round trip for about 20 miles and lasts approximately two hours. Reservations are strongly suggested as trains often sell out.

New Years Eve Train and Fireworks

Ring in the New Year in a unique way. Take the train and watch the fireworks as 2019 is ushered in. Choose from pizza and pop cars or wine and cheese cars.

New Years resolution to do something different... Party on the train as you ring in the New Year. Enjoy pizza and pop or wine and cheese during the ride, and watch the fireworks display as we help bring in 2019. The train ride lasts about two hours and covers twenty miles round trip. The Wine and Cheese participants are in a separate car from the Pizza and Pop. No one under 21 may be in the Wine and Cheese car due to alcohol laws. You may not bring your own alcohol on board, but you may bring soft drinks along if desired. Children under age 18 are not permitted to ride separate from an adult. Reservations are required as ticket sales will end December 29, 2018 at 11:55 p.m.

Two seating sections are available: -Pizza and Pop- and -Wine and Cheese.- Only those over age 21 are permitted in the Wine and Cheese section. Our family-friendly Pizza and Pop is open to all ages.

During the ride, depending on your seating choice, you will be served either pizza (cheese pizza or pepperoni) and soda pop (diet versions and water also available upon request) or wine and cheese. You may not bring alcohol on board but you are welcome to bring other food and soft drinks as you would like.

Each coach is heated. You can not move from car to car during the train ride. You also can not leave children unattended in Pizza and Pop section.

Reservations, online or by phone, are required as ticket sales end at 11:55 p.m. on December 29th.
